Jeeps 4x4 Systems

Jeeps 4x4 Systems

When it comes to four-wheel-drive, no one does it better than Jeep. For years, the automaker has crafted high-performance vehicles with AWD technology that's perfect for off-roading. Many of its offerings have won prestigious awards, including the Jeep Wrangler, which recently secured the “4x4 of the Decade” title. Even the Grand Cherokee has been named the “most awarded SUV ever.”

According to Jeep, not all 4x4s are the same, and each of them has been tested out in “some of the most inhospitable locations” in the world so you can be confident while driving on any surface. Whether the road is unpaved, or you're driving in a snowstorm or rain, with a Jeep 4x4 drive, you can rest assured that you are in control regardless of the terrain or weather. Below, we discuss some of the most common 4x4 systems that Jeep offers:

• Active Drive 4x4
One of the most popular 4x4 systems from Jeep, this system can be found in the Jeep Renegade Sport, Limited, and Latitude. It engages only as required so that the vehicle’s fuel efficiency is optimized and traction is added when required too.

• Active Drive 4x4 Low
This is exclusively found in the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk. It has all the features that Active Drive 4x4 offers, plus a low-range gear, making it ideal for certain activities, such as crawling over huge rocks.

• Active Drive I 4x4
This system is found in the Cherokee Sport, Latitude, as well as Limited. It also helps to maximize fuel efficiency and includes the rear axle disconnect as well. Like the Active Drive 4x4, it is among the most common Jeep 4x4 systems.

• Active Drive II 4x4
Available in the Cherokee Latitude, Limited, and Overland, the Active Drive II 4x4 has a low-range capability, much like the Active Drive 4x4 Low. However, here, the crawl ratio is tripled at 56:1. Other than these, Jeep 4x4 systems include Active Drive Lock 4x4, Rock-Trac 4x4, Command-Trac 4x4, Quadra-Drive II 4x4 with Rear ELSD, Quadra Trac I 4x4, Quadra Trac SRT 4x4, Quadra-Trac II 4x4, Freedom Drive I 4x4, and Freedom Drive II 4x4.
