Front-Wheel Drive (FWD)
The FWD cars are equipped with an engine that primarily asserts power to the two forward wheels. While climbing uphill, the vehicle carries most of the weight on the front two wheels. Most Special Utility Vehicles are equipped with this technology as they are meant to be driven on different terrains. FWD cars also provided added legroom and are comparatively more cost-effective.
4 Wheel Drive (4WD)
The 4WD technology works by enabling the engine to provide power to all four wheels of the car. By doing so, the engine ensures that all four wheels are spinning at the same rate. 4WD technology is particularly useful for models that are built for off-roading purposes. As the four wheels are constantly engaged, the equalised power distribution enhances the traction and stability in the vehicle. All-Wheel Drive (AWD)
An AWD vehicle is quite commonly confused to be the same as a 4WD vehicle. Although the understanding of the technology is similar, the two engine styles do have a few key differences. In an AWD car, the engine powers each wheel differently based on the need of the vehicle. The AWD engine can either supply the front and rear or left and right pairs of wheels based on whichever set requires more traction and grip on certain surfaces. AWD cars are ideal for driving on a variety of different terrains and in all kinds of weather. The AWD feature is already installed into the electronic stability control of the car and does not require manual activation by the driver.
